  • 1. Pop Video AnalysisBiffy Clyro – The Captain
  • 2. Location The main location in this video is on which appears to be a prison boat set in olden times where there was officers, on the boat we see about 3 locations, the first is on the deck where the prisoner is getting whipped and also where the shots of the band performing, the second location is of under the boat in the gallows where the man is in a cell with little sunlight peaking through the floorboards above him.
  • 3. Clothes The main singer who appears to be a prisoner on the ship is wearing no top and raged trousers which are ripped and torn apart, his appearance is very scruffy and dirty which helps the audience aware that he is very low classed and possibly a prisoner, there are also other people on the ship that are wearing familiar clothes, in addition to this there are others in uniform clothing which suggests they are in control and are in charge of this ship.
  • 4. Props and Effects There are varies props across the ship like rope and chains and other varies stuff you would find on a boat on them time, this helps to set the mood and environment. There is only one main effect added to the video which is a slight slow-motion.
  • 5. Cinematography When he is outside there are many long shots to show the surrounding’s areas and people watching however when he is inside his cell more close-ups are used to show the closed in space and that he is trapped away. There are also a lot of distorted angles that are tilted and also a lot of tracks and pans in fast motions, this helps to build an atmoshpere of being really trapped away and unable to get out.
  • 6. Narrative and continuity The prisoners or crewman are rappelling against the officers in charge of the boat. There is no sense of continuity its more of a montage of clips of the band playing and of the crew repelling the officers.
