Done By : School Name :Al-Shamal Independent Secondary school for Girls Module Polymers: Through this module, students examine the different properties of the variety of polymers. Then they design and test a humidity sensor made of a polymer film. Finally, they are asked to design their own products. A home-made filter:Desalinization refer to any of several processes that remove some amount of salt and other minerals from saline water. More generally, desalination may also refer to the removal of salts and minerals , as in soil desalination, which also happens to be a major issue for agricultural production . Salt water is desalinated to produce fresh water suitable for human consumption or irrigation. One potential by product of desalination is salt. Desalination is used on many seagoing ships and submarines.

Activity 1 Changing Polymer Pellets This activity helped us to understood how the polymer pellets work . 1- Prepare two 0.5 g of the polymer pellets . 2- Add 10ml of the plain water . 3- Allow the mixtures to sit for 10 minutes . 4- Remove the samples from the beakers . 5- Pat the samples to dry with paper towel . 6- Record the mass of each sample . 7- Put the samples back into their beakers .

Activity 4 Polymer Films Casting 1- We prepared the microscoe slides . 2- We registered data in tables . 3- We wrote the data on the slides . 4- We sucked some Poly (vinyl acetate) by pipette . 5- We put the sample on the slides . 6- We left the slides for 48 hours . 4 This activity helped us to made our own polymer films by casting the polymer solution onto a flat surface

  • 15. • We chose this topic as it is important for purifying salt water in Qatar as it is the only source for water . • We liked this topic as it is simple , small and it is easy to use and this makes it the best solution way to purify the water of the sea . • Our project combines chemistry and physics . It includes chemical actions and the polymer we used .It is also related to physics in heat circles inside the set .
