  • 1. PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION World’s First Open Surgery Orthopedic training simulator to be introduced at the upcoming AAOS annual meeting Montreal (Quebec) Canada, February 25, 2015: OSSim Technologies, a Canadian-based company, has developed a novel virtual reality training simulator, the Sim-K™, for orthopedic open surgeries more specifically addressing the total knee replacement (TKR) procedure. The simulator will be introduced in Las Vegas next March 24-28 at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting. «The Sim-K™ is the next generation virtual reality simulator designed for the training of medical students and orthopedic PGY 1 - 3 residents, » said Mr. André Blain, President of OSSim Technologies. «The system currently enables confidence building, hand dexterity and error avoidance while practicing surgical skills as bone drilling and sawing. Use of the already built-in reports of performance or customized reporting makes the simulator a great training tool. With the Sim- K™, residents can effectively train and focus on their basic surgical skills as often as needed — without risk to patients and hospital daily constraints, » he added. «The Sim-K™ is the first simulator to mimic open knee surgery whilst already commercialized simulators mostly address minimally invasive surgery. There is no doubt that every orthopedic simulation training center or teaching hospital would be interested in adding this new simulator to their training facility, » said Mr. Blain. The simulator Sim-K TM was developed in close collaboration with a very skilled team of surgeons from the CHUM hospital and Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital in Montreal, involving Dr. Veronique Godbout MD, FRCSC, MA med. Ed., Dip. Sport Med., Dr. Marc Isler MD, FRCSC, and Dr. Vincent Masse MD, FRCSC, all professors in the Orthopedic Surgery Program of University of Montreal. Anyone concerned and/or involved in education particularly through Simulation training is welcome to test drive this new equipment at the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) meeting next March 24-28 in Las Vegas, NV. The Sim-K™ simulator will be featured in Booth # 6651. For more information, we kindly invite you to consult the company’s website at http://ossimtech.com/.
