  • 2. From soccer to volleyball to football, injuriesaffecting the foot or ankle are highly common.Athletes that participate in contact sports orsports that require agile lateral movement onuneven surfaces should take precautions toprotect their feet and ankles from injury.
  • 3. Before workouts and games, many athletesbenefit from visiting their school ororganization’s athletic trainer to have theirankles taped. Taping helps support the ankle,especially the ligaments on the sides of theankle and foot, while also allowing optimalrange of motion. Ankle braces are oftenrecommended, as well.
  • 4. Beyond supporting the ankle during workoutsand games with tape or braces, athletes shouldconduct exercises that strengthen the tissues,ligaments, and muscles in their feet and ankles.Using resistance bands are a common methodfor strengthening the ankle and stabilizing thesurrounding tissues. Agility training alsopromotes ankle stability and strength.
