  • 1. AFC MISSION The mission of the Arkansas Forestry Commission is to protect Arkansas’s forests, and those who enjoy them, from wildland fire and natural hazards while promoting rural and urban forest health, stewardship, development and conservation for all generations of Arkansans.
  • 2. AFC HISTORY Act 234 of 1931 established the Arkansas Forestry Commission (AFC) to protect and develop the forest resources of Arkansas. With the passage of Act 1978 of 2005, the Arkansas Legislature combined the AFC with the Arkansas State Plant Board and the Arkansas Livestock and Poultry Commission to create the Arkansas Agriculture Department.
  • 3. • Arkansas forestland covers a total of 19 million acres. 10.6 million acres are in non-industrial, private ownership. This, as well as industrial- and state-owned lands are our responsibility to protect and promote. • The U.S. Forest Service is a federal entity, within the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Their crews manage the Ouachita and Ozark/St. Francis National Forests, which comprise some 2.5 million acres.
