  • 3. History Poppy seed comes from Mediterranean. It penetrated from wild panpager sentinerum. Some civilizations like Egyptians used opium as a sedative. Originally, people began to cultivate poppy for the seed, but the older Sumerians (about 2000 BC) knew it brings a deep sleep and has effects on the central nervous system. It was also used by the ancient Greeks and Romans.
  • 4. What it contains Calcium promotes bone and teeth, while Vitamin D enhances calcium absorption and bone growth. Adequate intake of both substances is important throughout life, especially in development, fifties and during pregnancy. Most calcium while not in dairy products, but in a poppy!
  • 5. Health benefits Poppy seeds outer husk is a good source of dietary fiber. 100 g raw seeds provide 19.5 g or 51% of recommended daily levels (RDA) of fiber. Poppy seeds contain good levels of minerals like iron, copper, calcium, potassium, manganese, zinc and magnesium. Dried poppy seeds contain very small levels of opium alkaloids such as morphine, thebaine, codeine, papaverine etc. When consumed in food, these compounds produce minimal effect on the human nervous system. On the contrary, these chemicals found to have some beneficial effects on the human body; soothe nervous irritability, act as painkillers.
  • 6. Recommendations Although most people think that the best sources of calcium are dairy products, it is not true. At first in the calcium content is poppy fact that it contains up to twelve times more than milk. Poppy seed cakes or buns with poppy seeds are therefore advised pregnant women and people suffering from osteoporosis. Already 100 grams of minced poppy contains the recommended daily dose of calcium, approximately 1 200 to 1 400 mg.
  • 7. Incorporation into diet Healthy adult fifty years should daily take 1,000 milligrams of calcium and 200 international units (IU - international units) of vitamin D. People over fifty should then increase the intake of these nutrients, and at least 1,200 mg of calcium and 400 to 600 IU of vitamin D daily. In osteoporosis, which is characterized by fragile and brittle bones need to be taken daily for at least 1300 mg of calcium.
  • 8. Other interesting facts November 11, 1918 in 11 hours and eleven minutes came the last salvo at the signing of the armistice to end the First World War. The horrors of war have remained so deeply engraved in the minds of the participants that after the war ended, he was declared on November 11 war veterans. The symbol of this day became the poppy as a symbol of new life.
