  • 1. 9 Frame Analysis
  • 2. In this title sequence straight away we see the iconic character if the Femi fatal. The low key lighting shows both of the characters dancing to incidental music. This could mean that that there is something weird about the couple and maybe something sinister may happen to the both of them later on in the film. We also hear ambient sounds of fireworks which suggests maybe its a special day for example new year or independence day. Here we see the urban streets of LA a key setting forthe Noir film genre we also see that this is a low angleshot looking up at the bright neon lights. The lightmainly consist of bright and dark reds, the colour redis a significant convention in film as it can beassociated with blood and love stereotypicalnarratives for the genre of noir.
  • 3. This canted angle shows us the hard-boiled anti hero male character and a naive young female character racing around in a sports car this could suggest that maybe they are running away to the big city in search of the American dream this my lead to her naivety being highlighted later on in the film. There is a voice over within in this clip again one of the key conventions of film noir .In this shot we see the title of the film. It showsclear skies but it also shows what it looks to beblood running down the lens which suggests thatthe plot of the film may be murder mystery. This iscommon in noir films.
  • 4. This is a medium two shot of what I presume to be the two main characters of the film they are driving, maybe they are driving away from something what has happened. They might of committed a murder, I dont know. But usually in classic noir films people are usually in search of the American dream these might be doing the same.In contrast to the picture above this one shows asign saying road closed and the on above shoedopen road. When I said the characters might berunning away this suggests I was right but now thisroad closed might be a metaphor for what willhappen later on in the film saying that there is nofuture for the two and it’s been like this from thestart.
  • 5. This shot mostly consists of low key lighting, which is a stereotypical aspect of the film noir genre. This makes the atmosphere more tense it highlights that the future for the two couple will be dark fearful. In this shot we see a close up of a mans face it is coveredin blood. From the angle the camera is a it looks like he isviolently hitting someone, that explains the blood; but whywould he be trying to kill someone? This is a mystery. It istypical of a noir film to put something like this within thetitle sequence because it creates suspense.
  • 6. This is when they lose control of the car and it spinsout and breaks down. They both seem to find thisfunny this suggests that they don’t really care aboutsafety and are willing to take dangerous risks. Thismay reflect their future and the car losing controlmaybe a metaphor of their life, their life might beout of control and this may lead to fatality a keyconvention of the film noir genre.
