NAMIBIA (11 DAYS) DAY 1 Arrive into Johannesburg, transfer to your local airport hotel. Overnight : City Lodge, OR Tambo (or similar) Meals : No meals included DAY 2 An early morning flight to Windhoek, Namibia and then a 6-hour drive from Windhoek south, through dramatic countryside to the dune area of Sossusvlei. Your 2-night stay in this land of orange, red, and pink sand dunes – the largest and oldest dunes in the world – will leave you with unforgettable memories and images. Sossusvlei Lodge is situated on a 44,000ha private reserve just outside the entrances to both the Namib Naukluft Park and the dunes at Sossusvlei. The rooms have adobe walls, tiled floors and canvas roofs. Above the en-suite bathrooms is a flat roof from which you can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding area. Every room sleeps two in adjoining three-quarter beds, has an entrance hall, bathroom with shower/toilet/wash basin, a fan, wardrobe, (a personal electronic safe is located here) and a verandah with table and chairs Overnight : Sossusvlei Lodge (or similar) Meals : Breakfast, Lunch (packs) and Dinner included DAY 3 An early departure with a local guide in a 4 x 4 vehicle to see the sunrise, and head deep into the dune fields, visiting Dead Vlei and Sossusvlei. A local guide will explain the origins of the Namib, the different types of dunes, the tracks and trails left in the sands by overnight visitors, guide you to the top of one of the highest dunes in the area and show you the desert flora & fauna, adapted to survive in this harsh and arid environment. Return to the lodge for lunch and a siesta. Later in the afternoon we visit Sesriem Canyon. The remainder of the day is at your leisure. Overnight : Sossusvlei Lodge (or similar) Meals : Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included Excursion : Morning Dune Experience and Sesriem Canyon included DAY 4 We make our way toward the coastal town of Swakopmund today on a long but interesting drive. Crossing the Namib Desert but, skirting around the main dune sea, through the small settlement of Solitaire, and then through the rugged and desolated Gaub and Kuiseb Canyons that run down to the Atlantic Ocean. En-route, we’ll visit the Walvis Bay lagoon, host to thousands of water birds (including flocks of bright pink flamigoes). A mid afternoon arrival in Swakopmund with the rest of the afternoon at your leisure. Desert Breeze Lodge stands on the banks of the Swakopmund River, at the opening of the Namib Desert dune belt. The bungalows have separate bed and seating areas, and are equipped with wireless internet, mini bar, a tea/coffee station and digital in-room safes. Overnight : Desert Breeze Lodge (or similar) Meals : Breakfast and Dinner in Swakopmund included Excursions : Canoe interaction and desert excursions excluded DAY 6 After a leisurely breakfast we travel inland to the mountainous Erongo region, through Wilhelmstal, a tiny farming settlement to reach Ozongwindi Lodge. Meaning “fruit of the Shepherd tree” in Herero the lodge offers 10 free standing thatched bungalows, all ensuite with wooden decks where you can sit and enjoy the surrounding bush. A swimming pool overlooks the bush with a chance to see a variety of game species. A flood lit waterhole offers opportunities for night game watching. Overnight : Ozongwindi Lodge (or similar) Meals : Breakfast, lunch and Dinner at Ozongwindi Lodge included DAYS 7, 8 We say goodbye to the mountains today and head up to the game filled plains of Etosha National Park - one of the finest and most important game parks in Southern Africa (and Malaria free). * From the Anderson Gate, we drive through the park to Okaukeujo Camp for two nights. The Camp has en suite chalets, restaurant, small shop, swimming pool and a flood-lit waterhole. On your second day at Okaukeujo there is an early morning and a late afternoon game drive in an open vehicle. Overnight : Okaukeujo (bush chalets or similar) Meals : Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included Excursion : 2 Game drives included DAY 9 Another full day for game viewing in Etosha as we meander slowly from Okaukeujo to Namutoni, visiting the numerous water holes between the two camps. Namutoni is situated on the eastern side of Etosha pan and is an improbably beautiful Beau Geste-style old German fort situated in an area dotted with graceful makalani palms, overlooking a water hole. Again, Namutoni Camp offers en suite chalets, a restaurant, small shop, swimming pool and a flood-lit waterhole. This evening there is another night game drive in an open vehicle. Overnight : Namutoni Camp (bush chalets or similar) Meals : Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included Excursion : 1 Game drive included DAY 10 We take leave of Etosha and head south via the small towns of Outjo and Otjiwarongo, to Okonjima Plains Camp. The lodge is home to the AfriCat Foundation, a non-profit organization, committed to the conservation of Namibia’s larger carnivores, notably cheetah and leopard. Each room has its own verandah 2 double beds, a mini-fridge, tea/coffee station, 2 roof fans, a safe and a telephone. Activities include leopard & cheetah tracking, hiking trails and visits to the AfriCat Foundation. Enough time this afternoon for your first activity, returning to the lodge for dinner. We then depart south, heading to Windhoek, for an afternoon to visit the city and to shop for some locally crafted souvenirs to take back home. Villa Vista’s bedrooms are all tastefully and individually designed and decorated. Most rooms have a private balcony or patio, beautiful en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, telephone, TV, Wi-fi, hair dryer, hot tray, tea/coffee station, bar fridge and laptop-size safe. Overnight : Villa Vista Guest House (or similar) Meals : Breakfast * Etosha (or “Great White Place”) game park was declared a national park in 1907 and covers an area of 22 270 square km. It is home to 114 mammal species, 340 bird species, 110 reptile species, 16 amphibian species and, surprisingly, one species of fish. Etosha is dominated by a massive mineral pan covering about 25% of the national park and is part of the Kalahari Basin, the floor of which was formed around 1000 million years ago. The pan was originally a lake fed by the Kunene River, however the course of the river changed thousands of years ago and the lake dried up. The pan now is a large depression of salt and dusty clay which fills only if the rains are heavy and even then only holds water for a short time. The temporary water in the Etosha Pan attracts thousands of wading birds including impressive flocks of flamingos. The perennial springs along the edges of the Etosha Pan draw large concentrations of wildlife and birds. CAPE TOWN (3 DAYS) DAY 12 A quick morning flight from Windhoek to Cape Town , check into your boutique hotel at the foot of Table Mountain and spend the rest of the day visiting the city and going up Table Mountain. The weather dictates the operation of the cable car up Table Mountain and activities might therefore change between days. Your boutique hotel is surrounded by many restaurants within walking distance. Overnight : Cape Heritage Hotel (or similar) Meals : Breakfast, included Excursion : Table Mountain return cable car trip DAY 13 and 14 The next two days are reserved for a ¾ day Cape Town City Walking and Food Tour, enjoying the local delicacies and sites of interest in Cape Town (the late afternoon and evening are at your leisure); and a full day Peninsula Tour, including Cape Point, Chapman’s Drive, and Boulders Penguin Sanctuary. Overnighting in the heart of the daisies you’ll be accommodated in a fully serviced, comfortable and elegant dome tent with beds, soft fluffy duvets, LED lights, private showers and chemical flush toilets. Early morning tea, coffee and rusks will be served in the “Daisy Lounge”. Overnight : Namaqualand Skilpad Camp Meals : Breakfast, Picnic Lunch and Dinner DAY 17 Skilpad Nature Reserve is one place where you can go daisie tripping and wear out your camera lens on the incredible vistas you’ll have of the splashes of color all around. Explore on foot - hire a bike – or drive the trails for the first part of the day. Later in the day we drive south to the mouth of the Groenrivier to the quixotic Flowers Beach Camp. Luxury right on the beach! Once again, your luxury dome tent is equipped with beds, soft comfortable duvets, crisp white linen, hot blankets and electric lights. You also have the convenience of your own hot shower, spacious dressing room and chemical flush toilet. In the morning, tea and coffee is served right outside your tent. En- route, a stop for a typical farm stall traditional country pie lunch. Your small boutique lodge is in the center of Franschhoek, and your base for the next three nights. Franschhoek is an eclectic town, brimming with art and a culinary mecca of the world. The late afternoon and evening is at your leisure. Overnight : Plumwood Inn (or similar) Meals : Breakfast and Lunch DAY 20 After breakfast you’ll have a little time to explore the charming village of Franschhoek before driving up the mountain for a wine tour and gourmet lunch at the exclusive “Le Petite Ferme” wine estate and restaurant. The farmstead is situated on the side of the mountain with a breathtaking view of the valley and wine farms nestled there. After a lengthy and wonderful lunch, the late afternoon and evening are at your leisure. Overnight : Plumwood Inn (or similar) Meals : Breakfast and Lunch DAY 21. To round off your visit to the wine region, we’ll visit “Spice Route” for an epicurean and artistic experience. It is recommended that you have a very light lunch today. The afternoon will be at your leisure in Franschhoek before dining out on a gourmet 5-course dinner with wine pairing.
