  • 2. Introduction  Dr. R. Christopher Goodwin earned his Ph.D. in archeology and anthropology from Arizona State University in 1979. He served as a contractor for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and FEMA for disaster recovery and coastal resiliency efforts in the New Orleans region following Hurricane Katrina. He currently directs a multi-disciplinary task force charged with damage assessments to archaeological and historic properties from Super Storm Sandy, both on land in four coastal counties and in Long Island sound, for the State of Connecticut. Part of that effort also entails coastal resiliency planning including development of state guidelines for elevating historical buildings and developing standards and guidelines for nautical archaeological surveys and treatment of historic shipwrecks.
