When those items are no longer needed, we throw them away.

1 Ton = 2000 Pounds 230 Million tons of trash
that’s 4,600,000,000 pounds of trash! 2000 X 230 million

What in is our trash?
Our trash consists of…

Paper

Plastics

Metal

Glass

...
Getting Rid of Trash
70% of our trash is taken to landfills.

Tricloroethylene (a cancer-causing chemical), and over ten toxic gases are present in landfills. Burying household garbage...
Toxic chemicals from landfills contaminate the ground and water sources.
Dangerous gas and chemicals from landfills contaminate our air.
Why don’t we just burn the trash? If landfills are such a problem….

Toxins from incinerators are directly absorbed into the air we breathe.
Every day at P169... we add to the problem.

It also causes 20% less air pollution and 50% less water polution than when a new bottle is made.

It takes a long time for garbage to decompose.
