Eric Powell served as the national BDPA Internship Program coordinator back in 2000. His mission was to transition the strong internship program created by our Chicago chapter to a national platform.This is presentation that Eric made to national BDPA leadership team on 9/5/2000.

BDPA’s Viewpoint <ul><li>Minority professionals in Information Technology reaching back into communities to introduce the youth to the field of technology and the corporate environment. </li></ul><ul><li>Using vehicles such as the Computer Club, High School Computer Competition, and Student Internships, BDPA vision will be met. </li></ul>

Resume Solicitation <ul><li>In September, BDPA will notify colleges via e-mails, flyers, phone, and in person, to have students send in their resumes for internships by October 15 th . </li></ul><ul><li>The resumes are entered by the students in the e-Summer Internship Program via the BDPA website. </li></ul>

Resume Database <ul><li>The application and data is stored with BDPA’s strategic partner SkillSet Software, INC. </li></ul><ul><li>Students who enter their resume will be able to view your company’s biography, internship postings, and link to your company website. </li></ul><ul><li>A Company will perform Ad Hoc queries to retrieve qualified candidates for any particular position. </li></ul>

Mentorship Program <ul><li>Acts as a bridge to connecting the challenging work experience to personal and educational development. </li></ul><ul><li>Mentors </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Will provide guidance, support, and aid interns in adjusting to the corporate culture. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Will meet specific guidelines for qualification. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>BDPA will provide a mentor for each BDPA intern; a company can choose to have one of their employees assigned as a mentor. </li></ul>

BDPA Corporate Partnership <ul><li>BDPA will be a source for corporations to obtain top minority students for internship positions, eventually leading to permanent employment upon graduation. </li></ul><ul><li>BDPA is committed to having new qualified candidates by late October for the upcoming year; however, a registered company can access the website at any given time. </li></ul>

Measurements <ul><li>To ensure that your company continues to use BDPA as a source for identifying interns, BDPA will provide statistics on: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The number of students hired as interns. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The number of students returned for an internship. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The number of students offered permanent employment upon graduation. </li></ul></ul>
