  • 1. Natasha Vallee A look into my career… March, 12, 2015
  • 2. Presentation Outline • Why I choose Engineering? • Internship Gas Reservoir Engineering • CPC Early Career Development Program • Oil Sands production engineering • Oil Sands reservoir engineering • Field Experience • Integrated Operations Lead
  • 3. Why Engineering? • Have you ever wondered how something works or if there is a way to make it better? • My favorite subjects in school were math and science • Globally there are lots of employment opportunities • Changeling program • Ability to travel • Versatile skillsets • Well known degree • Student conferences
  • 4. Internship  Gas Reservoir Engineering • My first CPC experience… • Integrated part of the team • Self proposed internship project based on statistics • Various daily tasks of a reservoir engineer • Worked closely with subsurface team • Field trip to Grand Prairie • Visited well head sites • Local pancake breakfast volunteer • Student Social Network President
  • 5. ECD Program Oil Sands Production Engineering • First taste of Production Engineering • Communication was key! • Responsible for daily data interpretation for well optimization directives and one well pad (36 wells) • At site 25 percent of the time to learn the operation • Managed source and disposal well work • Managed multiple large scale projects • Organized the well ramp up plan after turn around
  • 6. ECD Program Oil Sands Reservoir Engineering • Back to reservoir • Worked closely with Oil Sands subsurface team • Drove multiple initiatives to improve the link between subsurface and operations • Managed various reservoir optimization programs • Steam chamber modeling • Weekly operational targets • Coordinated all well reviews
  • 7. Field Experience Field Production Optimization Engineer • Off to the field! • Large focus on “Total System” integration • Drove multiple initiatives to bridge gaps between Calgary and Surmont site office • Improved commercial forecasting accuracy • Strong technical focus on plant optimization • Developed multiple new tools for predicting plant operations during unsteady conditions • Coordinated material balance for turn around ramp down and up, and forecasting
  • 8. First Lead Role Integrated Operations Center Lead • Back to Calgary to open the first IOC for Oil Sands! • After succeeding in “Total Systems”, “Integrated Operations” was a logical next step • Leading a multi-disciplinary team of Calgary and Field based System Leads • Communication • Knowledge sharing • Value Capture • Lessons Learned
  • 9. Thank You!
