In Glasgow there are 29,000 pupils in secondary schools which are responsible for the education of pupils aged from 11 to 18 years. Smithycroft Secondary School Science Department <ul><li>There are 5 teachers in our Science Department : </li></ul><ul><li>2 Biology Teachers </li></ul><ul><li>2 Physics Teachers </li></ul><ul><li>1 Chemistry Teacher - me </li></ul>Our aim in the Science Department is to help our young people to recognise the impact the sciences make on their life, on the the lives of others, on the environment and on society. In doing so our young people will develop skills for learning, life and work.
Smithycroft Secondary School Science Club In order to achieve our aims I run the Smithycroft Secondary School Science Club which is open to all pupils within the school. We meet after school on a Tuesday, from 3-4 pm. Some of the activities which we have participated in include : This Nicola and Jack who investigated the properties of disposable nappies in a science project. They entered their project in the Xperimania competition and were the overall winners.
Smithycroft Secondary School Science Club Unbelievably our school cafeteria is the main source of waste in our school as all the dinnerware is disposable. The pupils shown here are currently managing a campaign to stop this practice. This started as a project in the Science Club.
Smithycroft Secondary School Science Club As well as Science Projects within our own School the Science Club runs a Science Fair with our associated Primary Schools. Some of our participants are shown below :
