Developments Ukraine: Stop political processes!
Recently, it was announced that the authorities in Ukraine are preparing law cases
against Maksym and Kostyantyn Latsyba, both active member of CDJA's sister party
Democratic Alliance, because of their presence at the Presidential Palace during a
peaceful rally. CDJA took with deep concerns note of these actions of the authorities and
qualifies it as unfounded prosecution and thwarting citizens' initiatives.
Ukraine has confirmed to be in favour the signing of the Association Agreement with the
EU. Having this position means that Ukraine also choose for democracy, freedom and a
well functioning rule of law. These aspects must be respected at any time by the
government and its representatives, and maintained to European standards. The country
has, in addition to the points mentioned above, many other challenges in the field of
human rights, freedoms of citizens, good governance, the fight against corruption and
reforms in various fields. The International Secretary states clearly that the Ukrainian
authorities should take care about and put priority these issues. Only then Ukraine will be
able to be a serious partner for the EU.
The CDJA condemns any further political intimidation by the authorities in Ukraine and
urges the Ukrainian authorities the persecution of members of the political opposition,
journalists, NGOs and other civil society organisations and its representatives to stop
immediately if there is no well-motivated case.
The International Secretary supports the open letter written by various NGOs and
Democratic Alliance to the Ukrainian authorities wholehearted and encourages people to
co-sign *. He also expressed his serious concerns to the Dutch Ambassador and his staff
in Kyiv and asked to monitor the developments regarding Maksym and Kostyantyn
Latsyba very closely. Finally, Visser both oral and written reiterated its support to Ms.
Ruban, International Secretary of the Democratic Alliance for the peaceful activities
organized by her party.
