  • 1. Discover Port Elizabeth Port Elizabeth is a sprawling port city built on the shores of Algoa Bay in the Eastern Cape. Port Elizabeth is popularly referred to as the ‘Friendly City’, and is a popular tourist destination due to its many excellent beaches, sunny climate, proximity to malaria-free game reserves and rich cultural heritage. Beaches and water sports Some of South Africa’s finest beaches are found in Port Elizabeth, and the city is home to three of South Africa’s Blue Flag rated beaches - Hobie Beach, Humewood Beach and Wells Estate Beach. The waters off these beaches teem with sea-life, and it not unusual to glimpse dolphins and Southern Right Whales from the beach. Port Elizabeth is sometimes described as South Africa’s water-sport capital. The waters of the Indian Ocean are a playground for surfers, kite-boarders, wind surfers, scuba divers and fishermen.
