Transcripts - National Trust Properties are a passion for Howard Mcpherson

  • 1. National Trust Properties are a Passion for Howard Mcpherson National Trust properties provide a unique and interesting hobby for travelers around the UK such as Howard Mcpherson, who love to explore historical sites and enjoy nature walks and preserves. National Trust works hard to preserve historic places, protecting them so that they can be enjoyed by future generations. Historic gardens, older houses, and nature areas are all subject to preservation efforts, as well as coastlines and forests. They are a charitable organization that individuals like Howard Mcpherson get involved with. Getting involved can be as simple as making a donation or going to volunteer time and effort to a restoration project or beach clean-up. It can present an opportunity to get outdoors, cleaning up a historical garden, or attempting to secure grants so that these important efforts can continue. One example of an on-going project is the restoration of Quarry Bank. This building is a gem leftover from the Industrial Revolution, and it is a cotton mill once powered by the strongest waterwheel in Europe. Enthusiasts like Howard Mcpherson get passionate about these properties, as they often combine various hobbies into one place, like travel and landscaping. Howard is a fan of both. One area suitable for his tastes is Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden. These are not only a National Trust property, but a World Heritage site as well. It is located on the stunning British countryside and sprawls out over a magnificent 800 acre property. The abbey itself dates back to the 12th century, and it contains the only surviving Cisterician corn mill. Also nearby is a pretty Georgian water garden that is accented with a smattering of Neo-classical statues, making it an engaging landscaping design that Howard Mcpherson can appreciate. All around are lovely views of Studley Royal, and the nearby Victorian St. Mary’s Church contains a Reading Room and Elizabethan Fountains Hall. Patrons can also meander about the medieval Deer Park, rounding out a day spent wandering among the lovely scenery. Properties like the ones at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden are examples of why individuals like Howard Mcpherson choose to spend their time and effort with National Trust, to preserve and protect these lovely landmarks.
