  • 1. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PRESS CONTACT: Jason Young, 724-324-9116, Region Receives Grantto SupportBoys’Field Hockey February 12, 2011 USA Men’s Field Hockey Coach, Nick Conway recently announced that Western Pennsylvania has been selected to receive full finical support to start a boys’ club hockey league at the high school level (U-19). Pennsylvania is one of four regions chosen to receive the grant monies, the other regions are New York, Los Angeles and San Diego. The national search originally included twelve other sites, including North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Connecticut, Michigan and Ohio. Nick Conway stated in FH Life that “[he] hopes that these developmental programs throughout the United States will create a feeder system for the Men’s National Team.” Regional Project Manager and Latrobe native, Jason Young, believes “our area is ripe with talented athletes in dek and ice hockey, as well as existing male high school field hockey players who have the skills sets to make an Olympic team.” The programs being offered by USA Field Hockey include free programs in Latrobe, Ligonier, Greensburg, Washington and Waynesburg. These satellite programs are supported by local agencies including the Salvation Army, Hempfield Township, Ligonier Valley YMCA and Central Greene School District. All the equipment, uniforms, sticks and goalie equipment will be at no cost to the participants. The program will be run in stages with U-14 feeder programs dominating Ligonier, Latrobe and Waynesburg while Greensburg, Morgantown, Washington and Pittsburgh will be U-19 travel team program sites. Boys from the travel team will also be able to compete in the Men's Junior National Championships and ultimately make the National Olympic team. Programs begin February 26 in Westmoreland County at the Latrobe Salvation Army and Hempfield Athletic Complex. They will run throughout February and March with leagues and teams competing in April and May. The program will provide all members with equipment and uniforms. Interested parties should contact Jason Young at or find us on facebook at Boys Development USA Field Hockey-SWPA.
