Transcripts - Presidential Election ‘08

 • 1. Presidential Election ‘08

Issues: Education and Immigration

NGAUV for 2008 President MEYER for 2008 Vice President
 • 4. Educational Issues

Three main educational issues in the U.S. are: Standardized testing, Grade Inflation, and Violence in Schools.

 • 5. Standardized Testing

Standardized testing is a major problem in the U.S.

Should they determine if you should be held back? No

Nearly 1/3 of all the students every year fail the standardized tests for reading and math in the fourth and eight grades in the U.S. and are therefore being held back.

The main problem with standardized tests is their tendency to kill the kind of education that matters the most. But who can blame a teacher or school for teaching the lesson toward helping the students pass the standardized tests.

 • 6. Grade Inflation

Is Grade Inflation a Myth?

Grade Inflation is when students get grades that they don’t deserve and increase the average grades of that school or country.

Many students in the U.S. get high grades for sham work and as a result grade inflation occurs.

For example the grades A and B are given too readily like and A being given for doing work of not very high merit.

Therefore I believe that grade inflation is not a myth but a serious matter that needs to be addressed.

 • 7. Violence in Schools

No matter where you are, parents want their students to be safe and secure, but with all the drugs, gangs, and guns on the rise in many communities the threat of violence is inevitable.

Shootings in schools is a major problem in the U.S. In spite of the measures taken to improve school safety, including the use of metal detectors and security guards on campuses, public fears about shootings have been raised to epidemic highs.

 • 8. Addressing Standardized Tests

As President and Vice President we will bring down the number of standardized tests and will allow multiple retakes and tutoring for those who do not do well.

 • 9. Grade Inflation

If we are elected as President and Vice President we will address the issue of grade inflation and insure that all grading is fair by hiring better teachers for our schools.

 • 10. Violence in Schools

If elected President and Vice President we will decrease the violence in schools by providing more on campus security guards, metal detectors for schools that have had bad reputations of violence, and anti-bullying instructional programs for those who need assistance with their behavior.

 • 13. Definition of Immigrant
 • 14. Job Rates

Myth: Immigrants are stealing jobs.

Immigrant workers contribute about ten billion dollars to the country’s economic output. Economic output is a positive factor in the country’s growth.

Companies begun by Chinese and Indian immigrants generated more than $19.5 billion in sales and nearly 73,000 jobs in 2000.

 • 15. Population Ratios

There are 34.24 million immigrants (both legal and not) ten percent of the population in the country. After 10 years, 75% of immigrants speak English well.

Myth: Immigrants will soon take over the population.

 • 16. Illegal Immigration

Myth: Most immigrants cross the border illegally.

75% of immigrants have legal visas. A visa allows them to stay indefinitely.

10% of immigrants over stay on temporary visas.

 • 17. Job Rates

Imagine — Fresh out of high school or college and looking for a job. Demand for workers is low because all positions are taken. The problem is not just the increasing number of immigrants, it is that you are in the wrong place, where everyone seems to be.

If elected President and Vice President we will create educational programs to open up options for higher level job for new immigrants and employment programs to keep demand evenly distributed.

 • 18. Population Ratios

Imagine — The country in turmoil, not able to control the overpopulation that has occurred. Immigration is unrestrained and is the cause of the current situation.

If elected President and Vice President we will be able to regulate immigration rates. Restricted amounts and percentages will used to protect your freedoms.

 • 19. Illegal Immigration

Imagine — The country without border control. Although cutting off the borders will not win the war on terrorism, opening them completely will surely have adverse effects.

If elected President and Vice President we will strengthen border control, by not increasing the money spent, but refining the CBP workers abilities. We will improve on what we already have.
