Crown A Visit to Sundridge With SAV Pubs’ New Eaterie
January 08, 2009, Press Dispensary. Award winning restaurateurs, Mark and Sharlyn van
der Goot of SAV Pubs Ltd ( http://www.therosendale.co.uk (http://www.therosendale.co.uk)
), invite foodies to sample their latest venture, The Crown at Sundridge Park, Bromley – a modern eaterie
housed in a turreted Victorian former pub.
Opened in August 2008, the latest addition to the van der Goots’ already established gastropub chain offers a
relaxed atmosphere and a modern take on traditional styles. Diners can eat in the bar with its barbeque area,
conservatory or restaurant, with the added bonus of a terrace and garden to enjoy in the warmer months.
Private dining is also available.
In the gastropub, typical dishes will include, for starters, a rabbit and pigs trotter rillette, pear puree and
crouton. Main courses will include Gloucester Old Spot pork cooked three ways, celeriac puree and dried fruit.
For dessert, be tempted by spiced pudding, yoghurt mousse and summer berries. Starters are priced between
£5£9, main courses between £13£17 and all desserts are £5. Diners in the bar are offered a different
barbeque menu every day. Available between 12 noon to 10.00 pm, this menu will include a variety of smaller
sharing dishes designed to match the wine by the glass selection. An ever changing grill menu is also available.
In line with SAV Pubs philosophy, where possible everything will be produced in house, including bread, ice
cream, butter, vinegar, ricotta and oatcakes.
The wine list, featuring the SAV Pub group’s 200 vintages, is overseen by Mark van der Goot and changes twice
a year. Fifty per cent of the wines are priced at under £30.00 a bottle. In addition, The Crown also boasts a 100
bin fine wine list selected by van der Goot from his personal cellar. The Crown’s commitment to fine wine is
demonstrated by the installation of a wine station one of only three in this country. The wine station enables
25 wines to be offered by the glass, all served in optimum condition. The Crown’s wine programme is
accessible for the wine novice and stimulating for the expert. A number of wine club events will be hosted
throughout the year, ranging from wine dinners to wine maker symposiums. For non wine lovers, a wide range
of quality beers, ciders and spirits is also available.
Head chef Artan Hasa says: “I make weekly trips to Covent Garden market and always look to buy British. We
also butcher our meat 'in house'. This gives us greater control over quality and provenance.”
The Crown is open every day from midday until late and can be found at 46 Plaistow Lane, Sundridge Park,
Bromley, Kent BR1 3PA. The main gastropub menu is served between 710pm Tuesday to Saturday and 12

The Crown at Sundridge Park opened in August 2008. Australian Mark van der Goot’s experience includes
working as a sommelier and general manager at some of London and Sydney’s most successful restaurants,
including Aria in Sydney, The Capital in Knightsbridge and The Greenhouse in Mayfair. Head Chef Artan Hasa,
has worked under Marco Torri and most recently under Matthew Foxon at the Rosendale (part of the SV Pubs
