  • 1. Inaugural Operation: Big Wheels for Heroes a Success New York State Motor Truck Association and Bestpass ‘Touch-a-truck’ fundraiser attracts over 500 ALBANY, NY– September 29, 2014 – Bestpass™, Inc., providers of bulk purchasing and streamlined toll management services to commercial fleets, today announced that its Operation: Big Wheels for Heroes touch-a-truck fundraiser and public awareness event exceeded its goal of raising funds to help the Truckload Carriers Association’s Truckload of Respect program support the annual Wreaths Across America (WAA) wreath-laying event at Arlington National Cemetery. The event was held September 27, 2014 in Albany, New York in partnership with the New York State Motor Truck Association (NYSMTA). “We had three goals when we set out to organize and sponsor Operation: Big Wheels for Heroes— honor truck drivers, emergency workers and veterans that serve our country; raise public awareness of our industry, and collect enough money to sponsor a truckload of wreaths through TCA’s Truckload of Respect program,” said Alison Knowlton, director of communications for Bestpass. “The public response of more than 500 attendees was tremendous, and all three of those goals were met with huge success.” Operation: Big Wheels for Heroes featured a wide range of trucks, heavy equipment and emergency vehicles, including a WalMart Wreaths Across America trailer and a Golub No Zone tractor-trailer, as well as fire, police and other emergency vehicles, a bridge crane and several pieces of construction equipment, including an excavator that was used in 9/11 recovery efforts. Each display included equipment that was open to sit in, walk around, honk a horn, turn on a siren, and was staffed by the men and women that operate the vehicles. “As an industry, trucking is a vital part of our state’s economy,” said Kendra Hems, president of NYSMTA. “Trucks carry millions of dollars worth of cargo every day, and service every community in the state. Many communities in New York are served exclusively by trucks, and couldn’t exist without the trucking industry. Events like this, that allow the public to get hands on and learn about working trucks and drivers, help to dispel negative stereotypes and foster the positive public image our industry deserves.”
  • 2. Over the next several weeks Bestpass, will be compiling a “lessons learned” document with the intention of producing an ‘event-in-a box’ program that can be used to help other state trucking associations organize and hold similar events. “In the 23 years I’ve served trucking technology vendors in a public relations capacity I have never seen an event that did more for positive public awareness than this one,” said Susan Fall, president of LaunchIt Public Relations. “For every child that grabbed a steering wheel and every adult that looked in the side mirrors and couldn’t see the staged car next to the truck because it was in one of several blind spots, this event had a positive impact . With the help of Bestpass and other state associations I believe this event could grow into a very successful public outreach program, not only for our industry but for Wreaths Across America as well.” To view the event, go to http://youtu.be/reTUxqdVhmc To download additional photos go to http://www.bestpass.com/operation-big-wheels- heroes/ About TCA’s Truckload of Respect Trucking plays an essential role in WAA’s annual wreath-laying event. Every year, professional truck drivers donate their time and motor carriers donate their trucks and fuel to deliver the wreaths. In 2013 alone, more than 500,000 wreaths were delivered to almost 900 veterans cemeteries across the United States. Since 2012, TCA has coordinated this nationwide effort, as well as raised money for the placement of wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery. For more information visit www.truckloadofrespect.com.
