  • 1. BACKGROUND OF MAKERERE UNIVERSITY  Established in 1922 as a technical college . In 1949 , it became a University college affiliated to the University College of London , offering courses leading to the general degrees of its then mother institution. This affiliation lasted until 1963 when it became one of the three constituent colleges of the University in 1970 by an Act of Parliament. This status continued until 2001 was enacted. Makerere University offers not only day but also evening and external study programmes to the student body of about 40 , 000 undergraduates and 3 , 000 postgraduates ( both Ugandan and foreign ). It is also a very active centre for research.

BACKGROUND OF MAKERERE UNIVERSITY CONTINUED  The University transitioned from the faculty - based to the College system in December 2011.  Among the public Universities , Makerere University shares 53% of the enrollment. , Gulu University 6% ,Busitema Universityb1% and Kyambogo University 36 %. Makerere University has a comprehensive curriculum at undergraduate and graduate levels across disciplines in sciences and Technology , Business and Management , Social Sciences , Humanities and Education.

  • 5. ST. AUGUSTINE CHAPEL  It is for the Roman Catholics  Holy mass runs on Sundays as :  First mass : 7: 00am  Second mass: 9 : 00 am  Third mass : 11 : 00 a.m  Fourth mass: 6: 00 p.m  During the week days , there are three masses , 7 : 00 am , 1: 00p.m and 6 : p.m
  • 6. ST. FRANCISIS CHAPEL  It is for Anglicans  Services on Sunday are as follows :-  English services : 1:00 a.m, 9:00 a.m , and 11: am  Lugbara service : 1 :00 p.m  Youth service 4 :00 p.m  It is located behind the main Administration Building.

UNIVERSITY MOSQUE  It is for Muslims  Congregational prayers :-  Five times a daily.  Juma prayers :-  1:00 p.m ( Fridays )  It is located near the , main gate  Conclusion , many of Makerere University students go to different places of worship around campus. Others places of worship include:-Full Gospel church , and the SDA church.

There are green trees, the grass and these have been helpful to students.  they read their books under the trees , and play there sports on the green ground blessed with enough grass. The green makes the University look beautiful.
  • 9. THE FREEDOM SQUARE The students read their books from there. The graduation ceremony and other functions are held from there. It is a very important and beautiful thing around Makerere University.
  • 10. THE SWIMMING POOL The Makerere University swimming pool has rules and regulations. On the hot days , students go to the swimming pool to cool their bodies. This swimming pool earns the University some money for they welcome even none students whom they charge.

He was the chancellor of the University of East Africa . 1963 -1970.
