  • 1. PORTABLE MICRO CONTROLLER SYSTEM FOR TREMOR ANALYSISABSTRACTTremor is a rhythmic involuntary oscillatory movement of body parts, with arelatively fixed frequency and amplitude. It can be observed in healthy subjects as wellas in patients with various diseases. Tremor constitutes one of the most importantsymptoms of neurological disorders. Among the pathological cases, essential andParkinsonian tremor is the most often observed types.Objective methods to quantify motor disabilities in Parkinson’s disease areneeded in order to chart evolution of impairments over time, and to document responsesto drug administration and other therapies. Most of the equipment currently used tomeasure tremor is based on expensive sensors and is limited to research laboratoriesonly. Although many of these research techniques are sophisticated, they are generallytoo cumbersome and time consuming for routine clinical practice. Furthermore, mostneuro-physiological investigations focus on only one or two aspects of motor impairmentand do not provide a complete assessment of Parkinsonian disease disabilities.In view of the limitations, in the proposed project a micro controller based TremorAnalysis device is to be designed and developed. In the proposed project, tremor is tobe detected by Accelerometer sort of sensors. In the present project a MEMS based 3-axes accelerometer is used. This sensor basically provides digitized data to externalworld by means of SPI bus. This data is procured by means of a micro controller usingSPI bus and this data is further transferred to PC via com-port, for further processingusing MATLAB programs.
