SITUATIONAL ANALYSISPir Thnu commune, located in Snoul district in Kratie province, consists of 6,716 people(3370 females) from 1427 households. In comparison with other communes in Snouldistrict, the number of poor households in Pir Thnu was notably high. The communedata in 2010 showed that (419 (39%) was classified as the first poor and 283 (26.4%) asthe second poor). Eighty percent of the people in the commune mainly rely onagriculture production for their livelihoods. The people in the commune faced the issues of low agriculture product yield as a result ofanimal disease, lack of appropriate techniques; lack of soil quality and this cause themfood insecurity. The 2010 commune data illustrated that in the commune only 1.85 tonsof rice yield per hectare was produced. Fifty percent of the rice yield produced in thecommunities lower than the one with appropriate technique application. Traditionalmethods of rice cultivation have been identified as a key barrier to increasing rice yield. To address these community issues, the organization which is operating in two provincesof Stung Treng and Mondulkiri province extended its target area to work in Pir Thnucommune in Snoul district, Kratie province, proposing project activities to dress theissues above.2.
