  • 1. A Constructivist Approach to Technology Use in Early Childhood Classrooms Nasaa O’Leary ITEC 800 – Fall 2014
  • 2. The Importance of technology use in classrooms • Technology tools offer enormous potential for early learning and positive outcomes for the children. The use of technology brings lessons to life and keeps students engaged in the activity. When technology like iPads and computers is used appropriately, it can be just as effective as any other learning tool in the classroom.
  • 3. Key Learnings • After doing this project, I learned that the education and technology need to team up together to produce successful results in learning. Also, teachers need to keep in mind that technology should never take over teaching. It is essential to keep a healthy balance of technology use and integrate it into the curriculum purposefully.
  • 4. Future Research • Empirical research suggests the following as educational focus areas: • A much more pragmatic approach to research that focuses on the actual educational benefits of technology use, as opposed to children’s desire to have “cool, fun, trendy, hip devices” • So that research findings may be acted upon in the classroom • Early childhood field is not fully explored when it comes to technology use, so teachers need training and support in that area
