Purpose Methodology Significance Evaluation Outcome Acknowledgement Poster Presentation Tabling events & person- person contact Survey Distribution Sample included Rutgers public Data Analysis Findings obtained and analyzed Cigarette smoking is the single most preventative cause of illness and death Tobacco smoke contains over 4000 chemicals & about 70 are carcinogens Secondhand smoke is a class A carcinogen There are many misconceptions about hookahs and E- cigarettes Rutgers University can be a healthier community • Most people considered E- cigarette to be a safer alternative to tobacco cigarettes E-cigarette • Majority thought smoking hookah is worse than smoking tobacco cigarettes Hookah • There is NO safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke, contrary to what most people thought in the surveys Secondhand smoke 47% 33% 20% E-cigarettes compared to Tobacco cigarettes Safer Worse Not Sure 11% 64% 25% Hookahs compared to Tobacco cigarettes Safer Worse Not Sure 53%28% 19% Minimal Exposure to Secondhand Smoke Safe Harmful Not Sure Findings may not be generalizable to the population due to a limited sample size.
