  • 1. Tips for Building your Brand How to Cultivate an Online Presence that Best Represents You National Association of Distinguished Professionals
  • 2. In today’s world, more and more importance is being given to how an individual presents themselves on the internet. Thus, it is important to think about the ramifications of presenting yourself poorly on the internet. This presentation will (hopefully) provide you with some insight as to how you can cultivate/improve a stellar personal brand that you will be proud to present to others.
  • 3. 1. Who Are You? What do You want to Promote? • A personal brand needs to be, well, personal. Start to think about the moments/successes that best exemplify your personality as well as your professional side. • Be honest in your self-presentation within your brand. It will make for the best fit when it comes to finding a job or applying to schools.
  • 4. 2. Create a Website • Pinpointing how you want to present yourself is important, but then comes the next step: converting that idea into a website that is the visual representation of your brand. • A comprehensive website that provides writing samples, work history, personal anecdotes and work history is a great way to introduce yourself prior to the personal introduction. It gives whomever you are meeting more of an idea of who you are and what you’re all about, without you having to extensively explain yourself
  • 5. 3. Revise Your Social Media • Nothing will ruin your carefully-cultivated online presence faster than a few unflattering and unprofessional photos dug up from Facebook. Make sure your social media is properly tailored to align with and enhance the brand you are creating for yourself. • Make sure you double-check your privacy settings for your social media. Better yet, don’t even post those party pics in the first place!
  • 6. 4. Send a Message • If your brand doesn’t stand for something, if it does not send a message to those looking at it, then what good is it really? • Make sure you not only have a message for your brand, but that it is specific and industry-targeted in order to wow your intended audience • Be sure you are considering your brand not only in how it reflects you, but as to how it coincides with your niche of interest
  • 7. 5. Utilize Social Media as a Brand-Enhancer • Once you have secured a brand that you are proud of and ready to showcase, utilize your social media platforms to promote said brand. • More Professional platforms, such as LinkedIn, can be extremely effective in further pushing your brand out to others. • LinkedIn tends to rank high in search engines, so by connecting your personal brand with your LinkedIn, it is likely you are increasing your brand’s visibility as well as reaching your target audience.
  • 8. 6. Expect and Allow for Growth • As you progress as a student or within your career, it is expected that your brand will develop and expand with you. • It is important to keep your brand up to date with the changes & accomplishments in your life as you move forward, don’t just create it and never look back • Your brand should consistently be an accurate reflection of you- make sure that your brand grows as you do, in both personal and professional respects.
