Contours of National Career Service Project • 100 Model Career Centres to be established across India in the first phase - Combined with the centralized portal these centres will serve as the Primary Channel for all NCS Services. • Candidate Assessment Tests at the click of a button • Effective Guidance Services at all Career Centres - Equipped with Self Help Kiosks, Private and Group Counselling rooms, state of the art IT lab, Library etc. • Last Mile Employability - Courses for candidates including fresh graduates from colleges to enhance their Soft and IT Skills, essentially acting as finishing schools for the candidates to improve their employability. • Call centre for facilitation of registration and profile updation • Free counseling at Career Centres by Professional Counsellors • Enhancing employability of the work force by providing them information on training and skilling programmes, connecting them with training institutions and providing them career counselling services • Provide all information related to jobs, job market, job profiles, career path and employers at a single point • Facilitate the workforce in their career planning by providing self-help assessment tools • Improve the interface with industry and employers through regular interactions to accurately estimate job demand and gather relevant feedback • Skill and Job Mapping • Job Fairs at Career Centres for cohesive candidate employer interactions National Career Service (NCS) Project is a groundbreaking initiative by the Directorate General of Employment and Training (DGE&T) which aims to consolidate and provide a platform to further India’s diverse workforce. The focus of this Project will be on imparting easily accessible skill development tools and job matching to prospective candidates via the Centralized Portal supported by the 978 Employment Exchanges which will be further transformed into state of the art Career Centres on a phase by phase basis. About NCS 978 4crore There are 978 Employment Exchanges and University Employment Guidance Information Bureaus in the country. The live register of unemployed people consists of around 4 crore job seekers unemployed people Employment Exchanges new registrations 50 lac Each year around 50 lakh new registrations occur. This network provides placement to around 4 lakh people annually. The Employment Exchange (Compulsory Notification of Vacancies) Act, 1959 provides statutory support to these exchanges, whereby, all establishments employing more than 25 or more employees need to compulsorily notify vacancies to the Employment Exchanges. National Career Service Portal The Nationwide ICT based portal will form the backbone of the NCS Project. It will facilitate transparent, free-of-cost registration for job seekers, employers and intermediaries. These facilities will be delivered along with counselling and skill development content through Career Centres, Mobile Devices, etc. The project would be capable of meeting the varied demands and requirements of the youth for information on education, employment and training and will be supported by a multilingual call centre. The portal will also make available information on local service providers available to household and other consumers for services like driving, plumbing, carpentry etc. To cater to the requirements of the National Career Service a policy framework is being evolved. 100 Model Career Centres Around 100 Model Career Centres are proposed to be established in collaboration with the State Governments, Universities and Institutions during the 12th Five Year Plan. These Model Career Centres will serve as the hub for all career-related services and focus on providing career counseling and vocational guidance activities. The project aims at providing youth with the right career choice. Their association with the NCS will be life-long so that they actively contribute to a productive and efficient workforce. 100model Centres
