  • 1. The Start Of the Presidents Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition • In December 1953, the Journal of the American Association for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation publishes an article, "Muscular Fitness and Health," coauthored by Dr. Hans Kraus and Bonnie Prudden that sounded an alarm about the poor state of youth fitness in America.
  • 2. President's Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition • Through partnerships with the public, private, and non-profit sectors, the President's Council promotes programs and initiatives that motivate people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to lead active, healthy lives.
  • 3. President's Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition Mission Statement The President Council's mission is to engage, educate, and empower all Americans to adopt a healthy lifestyle that includes regular physical activity and good nutrition.
  • 4. President's Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition The Council's agenda is to: • Expand national interest and awareness of the benefits of regular physical activity, fitness, sports participation, and good nutrition; • Expand availability of information regarding physical activity, fitness, sports participation, and good nutrition; • Target all Americans, with particular emphasis on children and adolescents.
  • 5. President's Challenge Programs • Presidential Youth Fitness Program • A comprehensive school-based program that promotes health and regular physical activity for America’s youth. This is a voluntary program that offers educators free access to a health-related assessment for youth fitness, professional development for meaningful implementation, and motivational recognition to empower students to adopt and maintain an active lifestyle..
  • 6. President's Challenge Programs • Adult Fitness Test • Measures an adult's aerobic fitness, muscular strength, flexibility, and other aspects of health-related fitness. Use this test to see how fit you are by completing the testing activities, entering your data online, and receiving an evaluation. It's the jump start to a healthier you!
  • 7. President's Challenge Programs • PALA+ Challenge • Motivational program for individuals and families who want to make physical activity and healthy eating part of their everyday lives. This challenge is for anyone, from kids to grandparents, who wants to live a more active and healthier lifestyle.
  • 8. President's Challenge Programs • Presidential Champions • A program for people who want to be more active more often. Earn your champion award by logging activities and earning points as you do it. It's a great next step if you've completed your PALA+ challenge or for people who already get regular exercise.
  • 9. PRESIDENT'S CHALLENGE SCHOOL PROGRAMS • Demonstration Centers • Recognizes schools for promoting the overall health and well-being of their students. • State Champion Schools • Recognizes schools that have a high percentage of students who qualify for the Presidential Physical Fitness Award.
