Maniitsoq Ni-Cu-Co-PGM Project South West Greenland Project Geology APPROXIMATE MELT ZONE Greenland Norite Belt Maniitsoq Impact Structure  Recognized and documented by Garde et al., 2012*  Deeply eroded, deep-crustal remains of a giant impact that struck a magmatic arc 3 Ga ago  Comprised of:  35 x 50 km core of crushed, mechanically mixed and subsequently welded fragments of orthogneiss and amphibolite known as the Finnefjeld Domain.  75 km wide annular melt zone variably affected by crushing and melting.  150 km diameter zone of less damaged gneiss and amphibolite.  Finnefield Domain Undeformed, nickeliferous noritic intrusions, interpreted to represent crustally contaminated melts derived from the mantle in the wake of the impact occur throughout the impact structure in a 75 x 15 km “J” shape curvilinear belt. *Garde , A.A., McDonald, I., Dyck, B. & Keulen, N. 2012: Searching for giant, ancient impact structures on Earth: the Meso-archaean Maniitsoq structure, West Greenland.
