Natural Remedies for Perimenopause You Did Not Know!
Perimenopause occurs a few years before a woman’s ovaries lose their reproductive
function. This period in a woman’s life is associated with many of the same symptoms
as menopause such as: hot flashes (sometimes know as a hot flush), mood swings,
trouble sleeping, vaginal dryness, anxiety, hair loss, unwanted hair, memory issues and
more. Fortunately, there are natural remedies for perimenopause to ease your
discomfort and mitigate many of the symptoms. The first thing to do is to take
supplements for menopause.
Supplements for menopause are ideal because they may alleviate many common
symptoms of menopause with little to no effort on your part. There are no supplements
for “perimenopause” so supplements for menopause i.e.- those marketed for
“menopause” are the ones to take. Often these supplements are plant based. The way
they work is based on molecules in a plant that acts like estrogen in the body.
Menopause symptoms are really a result of decreasing estrogen levels causing havoc
on the the body’s system which was used to certain estrogen levels for the previous 40
or so years of their life. Once the ovaries stop producing those same levels, that is
when the menopause symptoms begin. The ovaries begin decreased estrogen
production during perimenopause and thus any natural pill that acts like estrogen may
help to alleviate the symptoms of estrogen decline.
Exercise is absolutely necessary for women during this period. It is controversial
whether or not exercise works on the menopause unique symptoms like hot flashes, but
exercise improves mood and helps with bone density loss that will increase from
menopausal age and up. There are other incentives to exercise too. Weight gain is
supposed to exacerbate menopause symptoms so is an indirect way to decrease your
menopause symptoms by just shedding the pounds. As if there wasn’t already enough
Use a spray bottle or a hand held fan during a hot flash. When you feel a hot flash
coming on, first know that they are generally not considered dangerous, so it’s basically
just a game of weathering the storm. Even though a spray bottle and a portable fan may
not be considered NASA technology, they get the job done and help you through the hot
flash. Try adding mint to the water. This will add an additional cooling sensation.
These are a few natural and simple solutions. There are many others if you do the
research, but if you start off small, and slowly incorporate remedies to your routine, it
can be less overwhelming.
