  • 2. WORLD CLASS 2016: CONTENT CREATION, ART DIRECTION & PHOTO SHOOT Turning around World Class’s flagging performance on social media with a clear content strategy, beautiful imagery and a consistent look and feel. World Class is a global competition to find the World’s Best Bartender, created to build awareness of Diageo’s portfolio of premium spirits. As such content on the brand’s social media channels was un-inspiring, trade-focussed and alienating for the average consumer. In order to make this brand more consumer-facing I engineered an overhaul of all social media channels, with a focus on Instagram. I created a clear strategy focussing on real-time events, real people, real drinks, real ingredients and real occasions. I then planned and art directed a photo shoot to create over 80 original images, writing the accompanying content and planning the release of each content package over the next 6 months. In just 6 weeks World Class’s following on Instagram doubled, adding an extra 7.5K fans to the base. The audience continue to grow steadily from week to week. • 3. “MUM” (BBC): MERMAID DESIGN & BIG TALK PRODUCTIONS PRODUCTION DESIGN Assisting the Art Director of Mermaid Design on the set of “Mum” – a new BBC sitcom from the creators of “Him & Her”. I worked with the Art Director during filming to source and create props and backdrops, re-set scenes between takes, monitor continuity and de-rig the set after we wrapped. The show will air on the BBC in late 2016. “Mum” – Mermaid Design -POLLYASPINALL- Credit: Miranda Jones
  • 4. ON STAGE: LIVE FROM TELEVISION CENTRE (BBC FOUR) PRODUCTION DESIGN Assisting the Production Designer for Gecko Theatre. I worked with the Gecko Theatre group to create a set for their first live television performance at BBC Teleivision Centre. The performance explored the concept of social media and reality tv and was based on a series of spaces representing the different stages in someone’s life. Assisting the Production Designer, I prepared backdrops, sourced props, made props and helped manage the build process. The performance aired on BBC Four on November 15th 2015. “The Time of Your Life” - Gecko Theatre -POLLYASPINALL- Credit: Rhys Jarman
  • 5. MANTRAS FOR ENTREPRENEURS: PRODUCT DESIGN Designing and producing a deck of ‘mantra’ cards. The brief was to create a set of beautifully-designed mantras for young business owners and startups to live by. I started by interviewing a number of entrepreneurs asking for their top tips for startups, then copy writing their advice into catchy phrases. I then worked with a graphic designer to create the overall look and feel, sketching hand- drawn illustrations for each card which she then turned into graphics. Finally I worked with a print company to decide on paper weights, colours and foiling – culminating in one thousand packs being given out at drinks fairs and startup events. ‘Mantra cards’ - Distill Ventures -POLLYASPINALL- Credit: Jaimee Lowe (graphic designer)
  • 6. LORRAINE KELLY SHOW: PRODUCTION DESIGN Redesigning the current set for Lorraine Kelly’s breakfast show on ITV. The set requirements were a main chat area for Lorraine and guests, a kitchen for the cooking segment and a fashion area with catwalk. My concept was based on a modern but cozy apartment where the audience and guests alike would both feel at home and aspire to own an apartment just like it. Interior decoration was kept to a minimum with personality and Lorraine’s trademark sunshine added in using quirky furnishings and pops of colour. The apartment theme was consistent throughout with a modern and fresh- ingredient-filled kitchen, spacious sitting room area and walk-in wardrobe complete with catwalk. To introduce light into the set and give a sense of time of day without feeling too artificial I created shutters over the windows where a diffuse light would filter through and change over the course of the show to show time passing. 1:50 scale model Set design for film and TV course - Central St Martins -POLLYASPINALL-
  • 7. WORLD CLASS 2015: ART DIRECTION & FILM SHOOT Creating a suite of video content for Diageo’s premium spirits collection. My team was briefed to create a series of videos showing consumers at home how to create aspirational cocktails using spirits from ‘The World Class Collection’. I created the concepts for 3 video series – “Classic cocktails in 4 ingredients or less”, “Cocktails inspired by the movies” and “The perfect cocktail for... ” – writing the treatment for each, art directing the shoot and working with an external TV production team to ensure that my vision was translated into film. • 8. VIPPY: DIGITAL PRODUCT DESIGN Designing and launching a mobile app to help people order drinks quickly and beat queuing in bars. After getting frustrated for the millionth time over the bar ordering system in UK clubs and bars, IU decided to create a solution – Vippy, an app that allows you to order and pay for your drinks from your phone, sending you a notification when they’re ready. Working with a team of developers and a graphic designer I designed the user experience and look and feel of the app, branded it ‘Vippy’ with accompanying logo, copywrote all elements of the app and surrounding comms, managed the process to get it developed and launched it in 3 bars – all in just 6 months. • 9. A LITTLE DRINK YOU CAN EAT: PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT & DESIGN Developing an ‘edible alcohol’ product for a huge drinks brand – from briefing to on sale in just 110 days. When a brand we worked with were interested in exploring the commercial opportunities for ‘alcohol you can eat’ I took on the challenge – researching and developing 15 different and new products in just a few weeks (i.e. me creating a whole series of very alcoholic foodstuffs in my kitchen!). I then tested these concepts with real consumers in various London bars (including The Box and Barrio East) iterating the product as I received feedback. I was also responsible for modelling the commercial opportunity and branding and packaging the product for market. Through my work the brand realised that there was a huge opportunity for frozen cocktails and have since released a number of varieties in the UK. • 10. POLLY ASPINALL BRIDAL: PRODUCT DESIGN & BUSINESS START UP POLLY ASPINALL BRIDAL was born out of a summer of ‘bridesmaid-ing’ for some of my best friends. Whilst planning the hen dos, making confetti and spending lots of time with some of my favourite people was great, shopping for and choosing bridesmaid dresses was a nightmare. Not only was the selection of dresses available in the UK very narrow, it was also over-priced, frumpy and ill-fitting. After my 10th trying-on session I realised that something had to be done. There had to be a dress that fitted no matter what sizes you were on top and bottom, a dress that suited you as an individual, no matter your personal style and a dress that you actually stood a chance of wearing again... The POLLY ASPINALL BRIDAL collection consists of tops and skirts that can be worn together to look like a dress – guaranteed to be worn again as separate pieces. I designed the dresses and the logo, worked with a manufacturer and material supplier to make a sample collection, wrote a business model, art-directed the photoshoot and designed my own website. • 13. YOUNG OFFENDERS UNIT & CARE HOME: MOOD IMAGES A care home for the elderly and a young offenders unit are not obvious bed fellows but this was the brief for my final degree project at Cambridge. The site was next to the river at Waterloo – replacing or enhancing an existing building called Elizabeth House. My scheme focussed on the creation of green spaces – similar to allotments – which would improve the quality of the air in the area and provide an activity for the young offenders and old people to do together. From the second floor down these ‘garden slabs’ would form a series of cantilvered platforms leading to street level and creating a beautiful public walkway through to Waterloo station itself. Above this level were a series of private rooms for the elderly and below, a skate park to replace the one being demolished (at the time) at the nearby Queen Elizabeth Hall. Images from L-R: View under the public walkway – a cool and quiet space where people could sell the flowers and herbs grown on the allotments above. Private living spaces for the elderly – rooms with beautiful views of the river and their own garden balcony. Cafe space and working area – a space where the young and old would come together to have a cup of coffee, prepare their plants for consumption (in the background you see camomile being dried on racks) and work together on various projects. The public walkway – designed to fulfill a similar function to the New York highline, part walkway, part park, brimming over with flowers and vegetables.
