INTRODUCTION TO NABH Safe-1 • Certification programme used by hospitals for infection control practices. • It gives a list of policies and procedures that hospitals need to follow in order to get a NABH accreditation. • For every new hospital being established in the health care industry- Stepping Stone for the journey ahead.

  • 7. STEPS TO OBTAIN CERTIFICATION Obtain Copy of standards prescribed and understand them Purchase application form Fill and submit the application form Assessment of hospitals Review of assessment report Feedback Issuance of certificate

METHODOLOGY OF CERTIFICATION • An application to apply for the certification is first purchased by the hospital which wants to undergo the certification procedure. • The existing certifications of the hospitals are checked for prior to further NABH Safe-1 procedures. • The hospital needs to meet the required standards, if not the application is rejected or accepted. • The certification procedure is carried out by a doctor who assures:  Baseline assessment is met  Policies and procedures for infection control are developed  Training of the hospital trainers is done  Mentoring the staff  Carrying out end line assessment
  • 9. ASSESSMENT PROCEDURES • NABH Safe-1 assessor are appointed to assess hospitals on the following points:  Evaluate policies and procedures within 5 months of application  Review the procedures for changes if required
  • 10. ISSUANCE OF CERTIFICATE AND VALIDITY • A certificate is issued by NABH Safe-1 after they check all compliances have been met by hospitals • If hospitals pass the assessment, a certificate is issued on payment of a final instalment to NABH Safe-1 • The certificate is valid for 2 years  The NABH Safe-1 secretariat can randomly send assessors to the hospital to assure all policies and protocols stated have been implemented and followed  If hospital fails to do so- certification is withdrawn  If hospital adheres to the guidelines- certificate remains valid until the end of the second year. • At the end of 2 years hospitals can reapply for the certification
  • 11. RECORD KEEPING • NABH Safe-1 maintains a record for the hospitals who has passed and failed the assessment • They also maintain a record of assessors • It also provides hospitals reasons for failure and steps to improve the procedures to acquire the certification.
