PRETHIPKUMAR A/L WATALINGAM Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Bandar Seri Iskandar, 31750 Tronoh, Perak Darul Ridzuan. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ 21 st December 2014 To whom it may Concern Dear Sir/Madam, APPLICATION FOR PERMANENT JOB PLACEMENT AS FIELD ENGINEER I have completed my Final Year Degree in Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) PETROLEUM ENGINEERING at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Malaysia and graduated on the 19 th October 2014. My final CGPA is 3.68/4.00. Based on your company’s well-established reputation, I am writing to you to express my keen interest to apply for Field Engineer position. I believe that I am an excellent candidate for an employment because:  Internship Experience: A solid internship period of 8 months with Baker Hughes Incorporation, in Malaysia under Drilling Services Department, with industrial hands-on practise in Labuan and Kemaman Warehouse.  Leadership Achievements: have been elected as the Project Director in several successful events as well as other leadership achievements and won several medals in co-curricular activities which provided sound interpersonal skill and character building. This can be observed in the CV as you go through the achievements section.  FYP: Prepared the university Final Year Project entitled “Bit Selection using Drilling Data by Artificial Neural Networks”. It aims to find a model for predicted bit selection for economic drilling. I worked hand in hand with a PhD student to gain predicted IADC Bit Code value and Predicted Rate of Penetration value through ANN simulation process. This project was personally given by the supervisor after monitoring my performance during internship. Also, being an international and equal opportunity company, I personally believe that working in your company under the excellent mentoring and coaching of your supervisors and managers will certainly enhance my working experiences, knowledge and skills that will take me a long way in my career. Therefore, I would really appreciate if you could give your generous consideration to my application for a placement with your company. I am looking forward to work in a highly challenging environment with opportunities to learn while contributing and relishing the chance to meet interesting people and interaction with different cultures. Enclosed here are my CV, which further highlights my educational background, co-curricular activities that I have involved in, and a recommendation letter. Copies of certificates and other relevant documents with regards to curricular and co-curricular activities would be made available upon your request. I am greatly looking forward for your positive response on this matter. Your kind consideration on this matter is highly appreciated. Thank you. ……………………………............. Problems Encountered  Limited time and data was given for ANN simulation. Simulation process needs to be learned and understood, applied without error and produce documented results within 12 weeks.  Unable to determine a suitable hidden neuron number due to data limitation and needed repetition of ANN simulation for multiple times for better prediction. Solution  Worked hand in hand with other PhD students who are working on this project to gain more data.  Repeated simulation process for about 690 times for all process to gain the best hidden neuron number.  Used multiple laptops for ANN simulation process to gain results within stipulated time. Conclusion  Predicted IADC Bit Code value and Predicted ROP value was gained through ANN simulation process.  The most suitable hidden neuron number is 10 and 17.

  • 5. To Whom It May Concern; 04th August 2014 Kindly consider this as an official testimony for Mr. Prethipkumar A/L Watalingam (IC No = 900416145515). He is a final year student from Universiti Teknologi Petronas, UTP who is pursuing his studies in Bachelor of Petroleum Engineering (Hons) and majoring in Drilling Engineering. His academic excellence can be clearly seen through his Deans List Standing throughout the years. He went through a solid internship period of 8 months with Baker Hughes Malaysia under the Drilling Services Department from 13th May 2013 until 20th December 2013. I was his direct Supervisor during this internship period. I found him to be consistently pleasant, tackling all assignments with dedication. Besides being a joy to work with, Mr. Prethipkumar is a take charge person who is able to present creative ideas and communicate the benefits. This was clearly seen when he was assigned for a Coiled Tubing Drilling project study in Baker Hughes Warehouse, Labuan. He is a person who voluntarily participates in company events that shows his willingness to help around and to be involved and engaged with the company all the time. I observed a great sense of interpersonal communication and soft skills as he had no problem at all mixing around with people from different culture background. Besides that, he grabs things easily and performs according to satisfaction of the managers and workmates. He managed to complete all the tasks given within the allocated time. I am very confident that Mr. Prethipkumar will be an asset to any company he joins with to start his career. Thus, I have no hesitation in recommending him to join your respected organization.
