  • 3. History
  • 4. Flood Benefits Costs The project will prevent flood. Average data for India -Total flood prone area = 7.3 million hectares -Houses damage = Rs 3.7 billion -Crop damage = Rs 10.95 billion -Public damage = Rs 11.86 billion Total = Rs 27.06 billion The opportunity cost of the increase in the fertility of the soil of the flooded region.
  • 5. Irrigation Benefits Costs Increase in the total irrigation of land. 3000 storage facility. - 35 million hectares - 200 million tones of food production - Water availability 92% in urban area and 86 % in rural area • Cost of acquisition of land. • Rehabilitation Cost.(Rs 56000 crores)
  • 6. Inland Transportation Benefits. Costs 30 river links . Canal network of 15000 Kms. - Increase in trade - Enhanced transportation facility - Economic development of the ports - Huge amount of earth dug can be sold for leveling . Environmental cost - Loss of biodiversity - Loss of vegetation - Loss of perennial streams.
  • 7. Hydro power Benefits Costs 34000 MW of hydropower will be generated which is equivalent to that produced by 34 Tehri Dams. 6.2*1000*24*365=Rs 5.43 crores /MW- year. Total= 5.43*34000 = Rs 1.86 trillion /year Construction cost - 34 billion USD
