  • 1. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 04/20/2010 Zimmer OH Chooses RFID Enabled Solutions How RFID Enabled Solutions is providing such a large ROI on Zimmer OH’s RFID implementation. Dublin, OH, 04/20/2010 – Zimmer Inc. (NYSE – ZMH) is arguably the industry’s largest manufacturer and distributor of medical devices. To facilitate this position, Zimmer continuously reviews its business processes in order to optimize operations and improve the bottom line. Zimmer realized a business problem within their current distributor operations and looked to RFID Enabled Solutions (RES) to implement a radio frequency identification solution. The surgical implant industry maintains stringent requirements; all surgical cases must be delivered on-time, accurate and complete 100 percent of the time. These demands require Zimmer Ohio operations to: • Perform three labor intensive surgery case inspections prior to delivery, • Use high cost rapid transportation methods for surgery cases when prior notice has been less than 72 hours, known as “add-ons”, • Spend a high percentage of labor hours sourcing materials. RFID Enabled Solutions has proven within the medical device manufacturing and distribution industries that the ROI is significant when utilizing radio frequency identification. Zimmer OH is an exclusive distributor of Zimmer Inc. trauma and orthopedic surgical products, in most of Ohio. RES is implementing their Asset and Inventory Management System (AIMS) on top of a one of a kind infrastructure in order to reduce man-hours and increase supply chain visibility. RES solution has successfully enabled Zimmer Ohio to deliver their products complete, on time and with 100% accuracy, 100% of the time. Some of the key ways that RFID is optimizing operations include: • A significant reduction of man hours per week • Eliminating 1/3 of shipping costs • Annual add-on reduction • Cut inventory specialist interruptions in half • 100% implant loan accuracy • 100% requested instrument tray(s) inclusion • Increased accuracy of instrument tray contents • Reduce loan return time of one cart from 1 hour to 1 minute with 100% accuracy • Reduce loan scan time from ½ hour to roughly 1 minute with 100% accuracy • Full shelf scan man hours reduced by 95%

  • 3. “In our approach, we use RFID as an identifier rather than a more complex data carrier, allowing us to work with any RFID infrastructure regardless of the technology. Once an item is identified, we look up the corresponding data and translate the information into a format the existing back-end systems understand.” Partner Kurt Domini added: “One of our value propositions is that we do not force our clients to replace or change legacy systems. Our applications work in parallel to any existing ERP, WMS or POS systems. This is how we are able to offer complete RFID solutions that are affordable and very easy to implement.” RFID Enabled Solutions has become a resale partner with Motorola and Alien, as well as a technology partner with ADASA and Collaborative Systems Group. RES has a strong relationship with Ohio University's Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) lab and maintains a proof of concept / showcase shop in Athens, where Ohio University is located. This shop allows prospective customers to touch, feel, and see the true business benefits of RFID. Additionally it provides RES actual customer testing and feedback. The demand for RFID is expected to rise further with the increase in application development for newer areas coupled with product innovations. The bevy of advantages ushered in by the technology including improved safety; reduced crimes, growing sales, enhanced customer service and customer behavior data are enough to attract prospective customers such as manufacturers and suppliers. RFID is the breakthrough technology that will transform supply chains, helping adopters rake in investment returns from within all areas of their own supply chain. Because of its fundamental value as an identification tool, RFID has the potential to impact daily life as much as the telephone and desktop computer have.
