Transcripts - Prevent Poverty!
Poverty is the state or condition of having little or no money, goods, or means of support.
Anita Roddick, business, human rights activist and environmental campaigner. Best known for campaigning against poverty and sex slavery.
She was born in a bomb shelter in littlehampton with her 4 siblings, she has a habit of recycling since young from her parents. She graduated from the Bath Spa University and opened the first Body Shop with 15 products. On 17 March 2006, LOréal purchased Body Shop for £652 million. This caused controversy, because LOréal is involved in animal testing. She managed to influence LOréal to abandon their animal testing project.
The body shop has always campaigned on issues close to our heart, where they believe they can make a real difference. Since 1994 theyve helped to raise funds and global awareness of domestic violence. Since 2004, over £4m has been donated to local partners who fund the prevention, support and protection of abused women and children.
Ethical Trading is about brands, retailers and suppliers taking responsibility for the working conditions of the people who make the products they sell. Its about making sure that workers are treated fairly, with dignity and respect. Our passionate commitment to human rights has always shaped how we trade with our suppliers around the world. We build close relationships with those suppliers and work together to ensure ethical trading is at the heart of our, and their, business. We believe this is the way business should be done.
Poverty is a serious issue that is spreading over certain regions. We hope that we have raised awareness in you and that you may help the more needy and less fortunate people, starting with those around you.
