Transcripts - Natural Language Processing and NLTK

  • 1. Natural Language Processing and how to install NLTK
  • 2. • Natural Language Processing is a way for computers and humans to interact better by letting computers use ”natural language”. • Machine learning is used to develop natural language algorithms • Machine learning is usable since: – It’s automatic – It makes use of statistical interface – It’s more accurate due to more data Information about NLP.
  • 3. Information about NLTK… • NLTK is a a Python module used to parse sentences and uses natural language processing • Applications of NLTK can be found here: http://www.nltk.org/index.html#some-simple-things-you-can-do-with-nltk • NLTK Guide: http://www.nltk.org/book/ch01.html
  • 4. And how to install it… • (Optional) Install Numpy http://sourceforge.net/projects/numpy/files/NumPy/1.8.1/numpy-1.8.1- win32-superpack-python3.4.exe • Install NLTK: http://pypi.python.org/pypi/nltk • Download the .win32.exe file and run (Install to C:User... ) • Test installation by the command: ”import nltk” in Python • Right after that, type: ”nltk.download()” • Now it should be finished!
  • 5. More installing. • If you want to make graphical plots with NLTK, you need matplotlib • Download the .tar.gz or the .exe file and install • If you need to download the .tar.gz file, put it in your Python folder, then, open cmd, go to the python folder and type: ”python –m pip install matplotlib” • Done!
  • 6. Simple commands to get started. • Either on your Python command prompt or an IDLE, type: • ”From nltk.book import *” (imports all the information from nltk.book) • Run it, the output will be some books with the name text1, text2 etc. • Now you can type ”text1” to get the name of the book • ”text2.similar("monstrous")” to get similar words from the book etc. • Everything is explained further here along with more commands http://www.nltk.org/book/ch01.html
