Transcripts - Narrative Summary
As I always say “the day you stop learning, is the day you stop living”. In its general, broadest sense, lifelong learning means a continuous, abstract lifelong phenomenon of learning;it cannot be thwarted by age or the passage of time. It is holistic learning, including intellectual, social, physical and emotional development. It is manifest through both formal and informaleducation and continues from birth through the end of life. Lifelong learning is a concept that isfascinating to me; the act of learning something new every day of your life is one of the joys ofliving. This is one of the reasons why I choose to go into the field of psychology. Psychology isbased around the thoughts and behaviors of human beings, which can be a process that changes, matures and shifts from person to person, day to day, hour to hour, minute to minute, but beingable to learn something new and help someone in the process is always rewarding. The field of psychology is an ever changing and ever growing field. In knowing andunderstanding that concept, to thrive in this field a person has to stabilize themselves in thefundamentals of the field; the basics, the building blocks, which create the field of psychology. These building blocks include knowledge of the basic principles, theories and perspective ofpsychology and how to apply these principles, theories and perspectives. Next, iscommunication skills, the techniques and ability to give and receive accurate information; oraland written. Knowledge and the importance of research is also a building block in thepsychology field; knowing and understanding the methods and protocols of research. In the fieldof psychology, knowledge of ethics and diversity is also important. Psychology is a science thatdeals with mental processes and behaviors of human beings which can be difficult to evaluate ordefine, so having these building blocks can make the process a little bit easier.
In evaluating the education I received in my psychology program, overall I feel as thoughI was given the proper information and guidance in learning these particular concepts. Theprogram began with classes explaining in detail the field of psychology by introducing thestudent to the founders of the psychology field and their perspectives and theories. From there, they explained how the first theories and perspectives were analyzed and progressed into othertheories and perspectives, leaving you with an understanding of how different theories evolvedand where they originated. In supplying the student with this information, the program was alsocentered on teaching the student how to use these theories and perspectives in everyday life. Bydoing this, it prepares the students for dealing with their own clients, patients, or students of theirown. In stepping out on my own as an undergraduate in the field of Psychology, I am wellprepared with knowledge and experience. This program not only prepared me for this particularfield but it prepared me for life. Because of the intense assignments and deadlines, I am now anexpert of time management and organization. The strict requirements of written assignmentssupplied me with the ability to efficiently communicate verbally and with writtencommunication. The interactions with classmates provided me the techniques and skills neededto be able to effectively acquire and maintain healthy professional and personal relationships.Last but not least, Argosy University understands that the world of technology and theadvancement in technology is a benefit for all walks of life. Because of this, they require that weuse it and all its advancements on a daily basis. I am now well rounded in all fields oftechnology and ready to take on whatever is handed to me.
