  • 1. Press Release: Thousands to gather in DeSoto County for Annual National Day of Prayer For Immediate Release - Friday, April 24, 2015 On May 7th , 2015 believers will gather with one purpose and one voice in DeSoto County, Mississippi in observance of the 64th annual National Day of Prayer. Christians from across DeSoto county and NW Mississippi are set to gather together at Brown Missionary Baptist Church, South Campus on Swinnea Road in Southaven, May 7th , 2015 at 6:00 o’clock p.m. CST in the evening for the 64th Annual National Day of Prayer. "There has never been a more important or urgent time to gather together and pray for our families, cities and nation as right now. Christians from every denomination are invited to come out and participate in this nationally recognized day of prayer for our nation," said Tina Tatum, chairperson of the National Day of Prayer Task Force in DeSoto County. "This year is going to be special as leaders in our community are praying specifically for God's best for government, education, business, media, family, church and for a great move of His Spirit across this nation. We believe that there is power in the place of agreement and we are expecting a great turnout at Brown on May 7th ." The annual gathering in DeSoto County has taken on many different expressions over the years. However, this year is unique, in the place of many separate gatherings as in years past; this year aims to pull everyone together at one large gathering. The time together will include a time of worship, celebration and urgent prayer for God's redemptive love for our county, state and nation. The annual observance of the National Day of Prayer was established in 1952 by President Harry S. Truman as a day set aside to "turn to God in prayer and meditation."
  • 2. The theme for the 2015 events locally and around the nation is "Lord, Hear Our Cry," emphasizing the need for individuals, corporately and individually, to place their faith in the unfailing character of their Creator, who is sovereign over all governments, authorities, and men. To further highlight this theme, I Kings 8:28 is the Scripture for this year: “Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day.” Churches and individuals can find out more by visiting: www.facebook.com/NationalDayofPrayerDeSoto About NDP: The National Day of Prayer (36 U.S.C. § 119) is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday of May, designated by the United States Congress, when people are asked "to turn to God in prayer and meditation". Each year since its inception, the president has signed a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day.
