  • 1. The Boxcar ChildrenAuthor: Gertrude Chandler Warner Nathan Chung A-10
  • 2. SettingThe story takes place in the modern times. The story first takes place in a bakery filled with bread. But soon after the boxcar children run away from the bakery, later they find the boxcar in thewoods where the boxcar children hide from the rain. Pretty soon, they go to see a doctor at Mr.and Mrs. Moore’s house when Violet gets sick. Soon Mr. Alden, the boxcar children’sgrandfather, lets them come into his house. There are plenty of rooms for them to stay in and theylive happily ever after
  • 3. CharactersThe main characters are the boxcar children; Benny, the youngest child of the Alden’s family who is sixyears old and has many ideas, Jessie who is ten years old, is skillful at sewing and is good with animals.Henry, the oldest child of the boxcar children, is fourteen years old and is a very intelligent and hardworking kid. And finally, Jessie who is twelve years old usually takes care of Benny and Violet. There isWatch, the boxcar children’s dog, who was found by Violet after the dog had been hurt after runningaway from his owner. Also, there is Mr. Alden, who is the boxcar children’s grandfather. Finally, Dr.Moore, the kind person who helped Violet when she was sick and the person Henry worked for.
  • 4. ProblemsThere are three problems in the story. The first problem occurs when they run away from theirgrandfather and get stuck in the woods in the rain. After that, they face another problem; Violetgets very sick. Finally, The Boxcar Children realized that Watch was a dog that ran away from hisowner and Violet had to see if Watch had to be returned or not.
  • 5. SolutionSince there are 3 problems, there are 3 solutions. One solution occurs when they soon realize thatMr. Alden was not cruel at all. Another solution starts when Violet is healed from her illness by beingtreated by Dr. Moore. The last solution happens, when the wealthy lady lets Watch, the BoxcarChildren’s dog stay with them.
  • 6. OpinionI liked this story because it was full of details. For example, it told a lot of details about Watch, theBoxcar Children’s dog and it also described how all the Boxcar Children looked like. My favoritething was when Henry, Benny, Jessie and Violet were so hot that they wanted to make a pool sothey built a dam and the boys got to swim in the pool. I like this book because its about kidssurviving without their mom and dad and I was really happy that their grandfather was looking forthem and finally was able find them. I was interested to see how they would survive. I really likethis book a lot because its about children and a dog.
