(NSTL) and Executive Software Partner for Performance Testing of Diskeeper® 6.0 Defragger Quality, third-party testing validates software company’s product claims of faster, more thorough defragging performance over manual Disk Defragmenter in Windows 2000 CONSHOHOCKEN, Pennsylvania, March 19, 2001 – National Software Testing Laboratories, Inc., (NSTL), the global leader in independent information technology (IT) testing, planning, consulting, and certification, partnered with Executive Software to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of its disk defragmenter software, Diskeeper® 6.0. NSTL compared Diskeeper 6.0 with Windows 2000 Disk Defragmenter® – a ‘lite’ manual utility built into the Microsoft operating system. After thorough testing, NSTL found that Diskeeper 6.0 outperformed the embedded Windows utility, defragmenting drives much more thoroughly and up to five times faster. "NSTL’s tests show that Diskeeper optimizes individual workstations, speeding system performance on Windows NT“/ 2000 operating systems by as much as 200%," said Joseph Osgood, Executive Software’s Product Manager. "Reports from leading analysts at IDC further suggest that this increased performance saves companies thousands, if not millions, of dollars in TCO by deploying and using a network defragmenter throughout their enterprise," added Osgood. Executive Software plans to leverage the respected "NSTL-Tested" logo to further promote its newest release, Diskeeper 6.0. "NSTL approval holds tremendous value in the IT industry; we’ve already witnessed NSTL’s value in other projects," continues Osgood. "Because NSTL is well- known for being 100% objective and thorough in its testing methods, their reports enable us to validate impressive product features, benefits and advantages that are important to our customers."
  • 2. NSTL’s investigation encompassed two critical areas of interest to corporate IT: speed and effectiveness. NSTL utilized single and dual processor systems as well as a variety of large drives, including software and hardware RAID arrays. In total, NSTL tested four enterprise configurations and utilized its proprietary Fragger utility to simulate fragmentation, creating a large number of files on the drives and RAID array. "Comprehensive testing was conducted to ensure a thorough evaluation of each product in an enterprise environment," explains Lloyd Holder, President and CEO of NSTL. "These tests clearly show that on systems running Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, Server, and Advanced Server, Diskeeper is the better product for defragmentation. Executive Software has gone to great lengths to have their product claims independently tested. NSTL is very pleased to have worked with them on this project." Computer hardware and software vendors rely on NSTL to test new technology products before introducing them to the market, trying to ensure a "bug-free," high-performing product. By having their products tested by NSTL, technology vendors also receive solid data for comparing their own products to competitors', and for supporting advertising claims. Companies also utilize NSTL’s services to test IT products before investing in and incorporating such new technologies into their own organizations. Executive Software expects to release the NSTL Report to help further inform corporate management and the IT community on the economic and productivity benefits of using a full- featured defragmenter, like Diskeeper, versus a lite utility in the operating system. The new product contains breakthrough technology and scheduling features that showed clear advantages in testing.
