Album cover has a complicated image to it, it’s a collage image with the
faces of all band members as well as being mixed with the features of an
eagle. The colour of the image is also part of the image for the album
cover as it uses green and black. These colours are consistent with the use
of infra red (night vision) which mixes with the album title as it continues
the imagery of a night theme.
The lettering on the album is very formal and military, it’s in the form of
computer text and specifically on programming. The ideas this creates is
that of it being coded and secretive, this also ties in with the album title as
it can be suggesting a secret encounter or information.
The title also implies sexual connotations, the night has its typical ides of
sex at night and the romantic ideas of the dark, stars, moon, etc. This idea
is carried through with the names of the songs such as ‘Sex on Fire’ and
‘Use Somebody’. These song names suggest the ideas of sex and
romanticism which is a message carried through with the album.
The single cover has a somewhat connected image to the album cover as
there is an image resembling an eagle’s wing. This can also resemble how
it is a single rather than the album as it isn’t the central focus of the eagle.
The main body of the eagle is on the album cover itself, demonstrating
that the album is the central focus and the single is a branch of it.
The white on black colours also connects to the image created by the
album, the them of night. These colours can represent stars on the
background of night, the colours of the album represent the infra red
‘night vision’; both of these colour schemes are consistent with the theme
The font is the same as on the album cover, connecting the two in a
different way that the wing does, it shares the theme of secretive
Print advert promotes the album cover as its central image and focus.
Underneath the central image it also promotes the singles released prior to
the album release; sex on fire, crawl & use somebody. This promotes the
album through the pre released singles and their success. The other
biggest point of promotion for the album is having the bands’ name in
bold at the top, they are a relatively successful group so having this bold
title brings the attention of all those who are aware of them to the advert.
The print advert also shows places that the album can be downloaded in
the bottom left corner and studios involved in the bottom right. The fact
that the bottom left promotion for downloading the album is of a less
conventional site ‘Play.com’ rather than something like ‘Itunes’ can suggest
an element of sponsorship by this site to see that they get more
downloads through them and therefore more money.
