  • 1. DB2300 – DB2 for Application Developers Understanding and interacting with an IBM DB2 database Hands-on 5-day course Course Description This course covers the essential concepts of the IBM DB2 relational database. Develop skills necessary to effectively interact with a DB2 database and develop application tuning techniques for optimizing performance. Participants will learn how to write simple to complex queries and modify database objects through SPUFI, QMF or the Command Console. Advanced techniques such as ROLLUP, CUBE, set operators and creation of user-defined datatypes are discussed. Participants will also learn how to embedded SQL into a procedural language such as C or COBOL. Exercises and lab sessions reinforce the learning objectives and provide participants the opportunity to gain practical hands-on experience. You Learn to… • Define and Model a DB2 Relational Database • Create, Retrieve and Manipulate database objects • Evaluate DB2 SQL for better performance and execution • Understand relational versus object database concepts • Identify performance objectives in using joins, subqueries or set operators • Use DB2 non-ansi SQL and evaluate performance issues • Utilize QMF to produce reports and jobs in different environments • Design and Create Database Structures • Display and Format Data • Secure Objects and User Access • Utilize Functions • Apply a Tuning Methodology • Utilize EXPLAIN utilities to examine SQL performance • Utilize the SQL Trace Diagnostic Tools • Optimize SQL Performance Who Needs to Attend • Support Staff • Developers • Data Analysts • Data Administrators • System Administrators HARDWARE/SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS: • TSO and DB2 subsystems • TSO accounts for all students. • DB2 privileges on a DB2 subsystem of the clients choice. Prerequisites: An understanding of computers is essential Follow-On Courses DB2 Stored Procedures
