Political stewardship military or mercenary

The military of a nation-state derives its credibility and honor from its nation (citizens) that condones its formation, its existence and its maintenance. It is considered as one of the nation’s public professional resources whose loyalty (democratically) is to the nation (citizens). Thus, it is clearly understood that the military of a nation has no credibility or honor outside its services to its nation.

  • 1. Political Stewardship: Military or Mercenary? Stewardship is a term that describes the managerial role played by someone in managing another person’s property. A steward is not the owner but only the manager. When applied to politics, in the context of democratic environment, stewardship refers to elected leaders playing the role of political managers who are entrusted with the governance of a nation-state and its public resources that is the property of all citizens. The elected leaders are not owners of the nation-state and its public resources but just managers. One of the resources available to the nation-state is the military. Military Resources: Its core role and function As one of the resources available to a nation-state, the core role and function of the military is to defend its nation-state against all actual or perceived threats. Take note, the military is not there to defend a political party in its country. It is not there to serve as a private army for one of its elected leaders or its appointed generals. It is not there as a tool for suppressing the citizens whose tax money pays for and maintains them. It is not there to serve itself. The military as a resource of a democratic nation-state is there to serve, defend and protect the nation-state – the citizens. In return for its services, besides material benefits, the military draws its credibility and honors from its nation-state. Military Credibility and honor The military of a nation-state derives its credibility and honor from its nation (citizens) that condones its formation, its existence and its maintenance. It is considered as one of the nation’s public professional resources whose loyalty (democratically) is to the nation (citizens). Thus, it is clearly understood that the military of a nation has no credibility or honor outside its services to its nation. What happens to its credibility and honors when it allows itself to be misused? Military or Mercenary and Juntas Elected leaders as managers for the nation who misuse the military as a personal tool for usurping the powers of the citizens are known as authoritarian oligarchies, tyrants or dictators. If a nation’s military core role and function to defend its citizens changes to suppressing its citizens, the military loses it national credibility and honors bestowed upon it by its citizens. Then, the military of a nation-state become a mercenary institution whose loyalty and service is for sale to the highest bidder. The generals of the military become co- dictators and become known as juntas which are basically military dictators. Any form of token civil governments under a junta is a just a rubber stamp and mouthpiece of the authoritarian oligarchies, tyrants or dictators. The nation-state categorically becomes a

Important Questions When a nation-state loses it political stewardship and becomes a military state, it raises certain question that needs to be answered by its citizens, its law enforcement units and its military rank and file and neighboring governments of democratic countries. Question 1- Should the citizens demand the return to political democracy which was taken away by force? If the citizens do not continue to show their disapproval to the forceful usurp of civil power, it would indicate that they consent. The numerical statistics of how many disapproves usurp of civil power is not important. What is important is that there should be a continuous demand for the restoration of political stewardship and democracy. Question 2- Should the law enforcement units and military rank and file defend the citizens or suppresses, injure or kill them? To answer this question is very simple. Who are the citizens? Are they not the family members: fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, son and daughters of the law enforcement units and the military rank and file? Are they not the relatives and friends of the law enforcement units and the military rank and file? How much is enough as payment to suppress injure or kill your own families, relatives and friends? And when it is done, can you go back to your families. When law enforcement units and the military rank and file injure or kill to defend their nation, they are defending their families. But when law enforcement units and the military rank and file injure or kill their own people as mercenaries, they allow themselves to become enemies to their own people. To allow an enemy to kill their families and to kill their own families, relatives and friends is the same. How can you become an enemy to you own kindred? Even animals know how to protect their families? What should you do as a human being? Then, you will know what to do as a soldier. Question 3 - Should the neighboring governments of democratic countries continue to show their solidarity to the new political dictatorship? It is said that we can learn from our neighbors’. If this is true, if neighboring governments of democratic countries show solidarity to a new political dictatorship – they in point are telling their own citizens that one day they would like to do the same. All the other right reasons given to justify the solidarity by a democratic government for dictatorship would be just pretexts. But if neighboring governments of democratic countries show their disapproval - they in point are telling their own citizens that they intend to practice political stewardship and remain as defenders of their people and country. Why do democracies become dictatorships? If democracies become dictatorships, it is not because all citizens desire to become political slaves. It is rather the greed of a few to rule dictatorially and to swallow the public

Is there hope for democracy? The answer is, as long as there is one brave person who is willing to stand-up to defend his/her family, relatives, friends and country – democracy will live. The karma of life is very simple. Those who live by the sword will die by the sword. Thus, authoritarian oligarchies, tyrants and dictators who live and rule by the sword can expect the sword to come back looking for them by the very ones whom they hire to do their deeds. As there is no honor among thieves, so there is no honor among mercenaries.
