SIGHT groups must be affiliated to a Section‘ Student Branch, or Society to form a SIGHT Group. The petition to establish a SIGHT shall contain the following: 0 Name of the Parent OU (Section, Student Branch, or Society). 0 Name and contact information of the organizer (who will serve as Interim Chair pending electron of a regular Chair at a later organization meeting). The organizer shall be of an IEEE Graduate Student Member or of a higher-grade status and must be an IEEE member. o Signatures of at least six (6) IEEE voting Members who are Members of the Section/ Student Branch/ Society involved, and who indicate they will ]0Ifl the SIGHT if established. 0 The mission/ goals and proposed activities for first year. Signature of the Chair of the Parent OU (Branch Counselor for Student Branches) and interim Chair of SIGHT group. The SIGHT staff will review the petition and advise if there are any discrepancies. Example: The Madras SIGHT group organized a Solar Lamp design contest for students and had an event showcasing the importance of alternative energy sources. 8. Educational ‘ Programs such as TISP (Teacher In-Service Program) which aim to help local schools in the underserved regions, and have a good educational value for the participating school students. Part B- Major Projects Major SIGHT projects aims are as follows: - Support sustainable technology business initiatives seeking to have a measureable impact in alleviating global poverty of energy, health care, sanitation, interconnectivity and other technology-dependent solutions among the Bottom of the Pyramid (BOP) 1.4 billion people; 6 Develop open source technology solutions designed to drive down the cost of access to full benefits in technology areas, while avoiding intellectual property restrictions that keep costs artificially high and deny affordable access; - Leverage affordable core technologies like electricity, communications and interconnectivity to bring affordable secondary benefits to the BOP especially education at all levels in rural poor societies; and * Empower BOP local entrepreneurs and citizens to develop sustainable, scalable profit- making businesses in—country to grow community prosperity exponentially by reinvesting all profits in growth to scale and in improving community infrastructure such as roads, sanitation, health care and education.
