Nasreddin Hodja is an important joke character in Turkish folklor.He is believed to lived in Anatolia in the 13th century. He was born in Sivrihisar and died in Akşehir,Konya. He was a very clever man had quick wits.He had a donkey.Its name was “Karakaçan”
In his jokes and stories he made us think while laughing.He had a good sense of humour,saw and showed us the social events from a funny aspect. He rode his donkey not in a normal way.
Pivotal Point One idle day, the villagers were contemplating philosophical thoughts and deliberating the mysteries of the universe. Since they weren't getting anywhere with their reflections, they decided to solicit the wisdom of Nasreddin Hodja. `Hodja Effendi,' they said, `you are a learned man, maybe you can shed a light on this puzzle. Where is the centre of the earth?' Nasreddin Hodja didn't skip a beat. `Right under the left front foot of my donkey.' he said. `Hodja Effendi,' protested the villagers, `that can't be right!' `If you don't believe me,' said The Hodja, `measure it for yourself!'
There is a monument of him in the city center of Akşehir.
He is a famous hero in folk stories in Turkish literature. His name means “bald boy” in English. He represent a character who has big dreams,doesnt want to have a lot of money and awards,is tolerant,a bit romantic and who is very clever.He has been told from generation to generation and has come up to present.
Sometimes his lazinesses made problems for him but with his brilliant ideas and and his practical personality he always succeeded in difficult situations.
His stories and tales are told in movies. And Rüştü Asyalı was the Keloğlan character in some of these movies.
